Alexandra Cook is a London-born illustrator, comics artist, and creative director based in Tokyo, Japan, represented by Illustration X.
Her work blends atmospheric illustration with narrative worldbuilding, drawing from folklore, memory, material culture, and shifting ideas of identity and place. Through textured imagery and emotionally led storytelling, she creates work that sits between the intimate and the surreal, often exploring themes of longing, impermanence, and human connection.
Alongside her illustration practice, Alexandra is the author of the independently published graphic novels Momotekku and Sparrowsong through Koguchi Press, and has contributed to a range of small press anthologies. In 2021, she was selected as one of Broken Frontier’s Six to Watch, recognising emerging voices in contemporary comics.
Her work has been recognised by the Association of Illustrators World Illustration Awards, where she was longlisted and shortlisted in 2023, and she received second place in the Manga Jiman Competition hosted by the Embassy of Japan in the UK in 2019.
Alongside her freelance illustration work, Alexandra currently works as Creative Director for a material innovation and textiles company in Japan, creating visual narratives and exhibition-led projects that connect traditional Japanese craftsmanship with contemporary material design.
